Scholarships

Scholarship Support can be provided in a number of different ways. You can contribute any amount to the Foundation General Scholarship fund, create your own annual scholarship, or endow a scholarship.

Foundation Scholarship Fund
Gifts to the Foundation Scholarship fund are distributed across campus to provide financial support for students in every department and program.  Gifts to this important fund enable hundreds of students to obtain a high quality education by lessening their financial burden and enabling them to focus more on their areas of study.

Annual Scholarships
Annual named scholarships are established with a gift of $1500 and are scholarships that you can renew each year with additional gifts. Please see Personalizing Your Scholarship below.

Endowed Scholarships
Endowed Scholarships are established with a gift of $20,000 or more (payable in installments for up to five years if you so choose) and exist in perpetuity.  Scholarship awards are made from investment earnings. Please see Personalizing Your Scholarship below.

Personalizing Your Scholarship
You can name your scholarship after yourself, a family member, in memory/honor of someone, or an area of special interest that reflects the nature of the award.  You can also choose your own scholarship criteria!

Foundation staff members will work with you to discuss your interests and the needs of the University. A written agreement is then signed ensuring that your criteria are met.

As you think about what type of student you would like to support, here are a few questions to consider:

• Would you like to help recruit students to attend Western through scholarships for incoming freshmen or would you rather support current students?
• Would you like to help students within a particular area of study?
• Would you like to designate your scholarship for students participating in athletics or another extracurricular activity?
• Is academic achievement a consideration for you?
• Do you want to fund a student with financial need? Or any outstanding student?
